Level 1 Coach Accreditation Course

Diving Queensland is holding a Level 1 Coach Accreditation Course on Saturday 11th of August 2018 (8:00 am - 5:00 pm - finish time is approximate)
This course will be held at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre, Sleeman Sports Complex, Chandler.

The cost of this course is $170 per participant.

Upon close of registrations on Monday 16th of July 2018, all participants who register for this course will receive notification of next steps, which is to successfully complete all online components prior to the practical workshop, and to provide all completed certification to the DQ Coaching Coordinator for processing.

On completion of this training course, a Level 1 diving coach will be able to:
- Coach basic diving skills through progressive skills and exercises.
- Implement appropriate diving etiquette.
- Provide safe training environment and have an understanding of their legal responsibilities.
- Implement effective warm up and cool down sessions and develop diver flexibility and general athlete strength programs.
- Integrate basic strength and conditioning exercises into training program.
- Conduct well organised daily training sessions for beginner divers.
- Coach principles of core stability and body alignment.
- Coach springboard and platform take-offs.
- Coach sequence of movement for springboard and platform approach.
- Coach aerial positions - straight, tuck and pike.
- Coach visual spotting.
- Coach entries.
- Coach five basic dives.
- Safely use dry land equipment as training aid to coach basic diving techniques.
Level 1 pre-requisites:
These online courses are a compulsory component which must be completed by Friday the 3rd of August 2018.
Candidates should familiarise themselves with the following requirements necessary
- Must be a minimum of 16 years of age at the time of the practical workshop(as per Diving Australia coaching policy).
- If you are not yet a member of Diving Queensland, join as a member (any member type) from the MEMBERSHIP page. Once you are a paid member you can register for the course.
- You are no longer required to be registered as a Coach to earn your supervised hours but you MUST be a member of Diving Queensland/Diving Australia and will be required to Upgrade to a Coach before final accreditation.
Successfully complete Australian Sports Commission Community Coach General Principles (on-line course). Enrol and complete all activities and assessment tasks. Once the tasks have been successfully completed, candidates are required to download a copy of their certificate as evidence of having completed the course. (This will take approximately 2 hours).
Successfully complete Play by the Rules Child Protection and Anti-Harassment (on-line course). Enrol in the online modules and complete all activities. Upon successful completion of the two modules, candidates are required to download a copy of the certificate as evidence of having completed the modules. (This will take approximately 1 hour).
Successfully complete the Diving Australia NCAS Level 1 Coach Education Course (upon payment of registration/course fee, the State Coaching Coordinator will supply all participant email information to the DA National Coaching Coordinator, who will organise log-in information for each participant. Log-in information will be forwarded to each participant).
The components of this course include:
- Understanding Your Foundation level Divers
- Developing Foundation Level Technical Skills
- Developing Foundation Level Physical Skills
- The Level 1 Coach in Action
Upon successful completion of these tasks, candidates are required to download a copy of the certificate as evidence of completion. (This will take approximately 2 hours).
Complete the ASADA Anti-Doping Level 1 certification (on-line course)
Complete the Keeping Sport Honest certification (on-line course)
After the practical workshop:
Practical coaching under the direct supervision of an accredited Level 2 (or higher) Diving Coach (standing beside Level 2 coach) - Minimum of 25 hours
Other accreditation requirements to have or apply for:
- obtain a current first aid certificate
- obtain a current CPR certification
- obtain a current anaphylaxis and asthma certification
- hold a current QLD Working with Children clearance (paid Bluecard)
- Sign the DA Coaches Code of Ethics document
** Trainee coaches are not required to register as a coach with DA until they apply for accreditation. However, they must be under a Level 2 coach supervisor while they are accumulating hours and prior to receiving accreditation. Trainee coaches must be 16 years of age before applying for accreditation.
*** Level 1 coaches are not permitted to coach over or above the 5 metre platform.
